South Tyneside Homes was established as an Arms Length Management Organisation ALMO) on 1 April 2006 to manage and maintain the Council’s homes and estates. We are a non-profit-making organisation that is owned by South Tyneside Council. We manage 18,220 tenanted and 704 leasehold homes and are a significant local employer, employing over 670 people.

Signing up to the Stonewall Diversity Champions Scheme in January 2009 and have invested a huge amount of time and resources into making our services and employment practices more LGBT friendly. We are constantly striving to make improvements and are working toward becoming a Stonewall top 100 employer.

South Tyneside Homes have recognised the importance of entering into conversation and undertaking research into the needs of the LGBT community and the issues they face accessing our services and living on our estates. We have participated in the 2010 and 2011 Pride event, sponsored the 2011 Pride event, include regular information in OUT NE (a regional LGBT magazine) promoting our services and worked with the North East LGBT Federation to develop consultation events and identify how we need to improve services.
